Ok Campers

Get it? OK enough. Welcome to Paul Murray aka Lazy Morse aka Paul Fucking Murray etc. There’s some new things on the site so I thought I’d draw your attention to them. Firstly the new background is a lovely piece of art by my friend Newton Crisp and there will be more where that came from! I highly recommend you check out his Instagram right now here. He also helped me record a demo of a new song titled “Underrated Alligator” which you can listen too on the music page.

Otherwise there is not loads to report but it’s been a good start to the year! Thanks to everyone who made it to the Ronnie Scott’s gig in Soho London, it was a truly mind-blowing turn out and I’m still overwhelmed by your kindness for travelling and paying to see me. I also had the pleasure of supporting Ben Caplan and the Casual Smokers at Brighton’s Green Door Store which was also a great turn out and I thank Mel from One Inch Badge and Ben for having me. It also received a lovely review from XYZ magazine which you can read here.

As for upcoming shows I have the pleasure of Supporting two of the my dearest friends at two for Brighton’s best venues! First I am supporting Warsaw Radio at the Prince Albert on February 7th and then I support the brilliant Kev Minney at the Komedia on March 2nd. Tickets for Komedia are available here and tickets for both shows are available from me at The Brighton Tavern in the North Laine.

As always I’ll be giving out my awesome stickers drawn by the lovely Gennine from Joan & Grim.

Interesting new things at Lazy Morse!

Hello all, my obligatory haven’tpostedinages post for you all! So what’s been going? Well the big Green Door Store gig is coming up and you can till buy tickets here. This is a great opportunity and I am very much looking forward to it, you can check out the big headliner, Will Hoge’s stuff here. In light of these big gigs coming up I have been getting some extra players together to flesh out the sound a bit. I tried some of this out at a recent headline gig at The Brunswick and it went incredibly well adding some “new textures” to my sound as Rich from Overhead Wires put it.

band!

So obvious thanks also goes to Gennine and Jimmy for their contributions to this new experiment. In other news I had a great time playing my good friend John and Gary’s wedding, you can see me here playing their first dance! Awwww:

john and gary

Coming up I have some studio time for a couple of new songs so stay tuned for that and I have some other interesting gigs through July and August. I’ll be returning to Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar on July 25th for another awesome Brighton Rocks gig and the night before that (24th July) I’ll be doing a short set supporting my good friends Treasure and The Downing Street Years at the Latest Music Bar. Finally the amazing Fiddler’s Elbow Folk and Cider Festival returns this year all day on 30th August; more details on that soon!

That’s all for now, oh and this site should be looking a lot better soon as well, keep an eye out!

Regards,

Paul Murray

New (but old) E.P I just found/Happy New Year/2007

Happy New Year everybody, here is my first blog/post of the year! Here is the thing I will be talking about so you can listen to it while I ramble: CLICK HERE

Taken last year.

Taken last year.

Over Christmas I was brutally forced by my parents to clear out some of the crap from my childhood room which had built up over the years, which is fair, I suppose, seeing as I haven’t lived in Pinner for over 5 years. This task proved to be funny, scary, interesting and depressing all at once. Amongst the cringe-worthy goth photos (though I do still look hot in eye-liner), abysmal song lyrics/poetry, years old bank statements, letters, old ticket stubs, dirty playing cards and birthday cards, I did find a couple of forgotten gems. One of these was a CD of one of the first recordings I ever made with an old friend, Tom Quillfelt (sorry Tom, I am almost certain I spelt that wrong). I had made recordings previously with my old band The Frame and with my long time collaborator Alex (who I hope to share the stage with again one day), but this was the first one that I made as the solo troubadour you Brightonians know today. This CD is also (to the best of my knowledge) the only copy of these songs in existence!! Ooooh! Aaah!

I have you really love friends who draw me dinosaurs.

I have really lovely friends who draw me dinosaurs.

Except, of course, until now! See back in the oldey timey days of 2007 kids, believe it or not it was much harder to just stick tracks online. The online phenomenon wasn’t far off but it certainly wasn’t as hugely convenient back then. Grand Theft Auto 4 was yet to come out, memes were only found on memeparty.com, Brown replaced Blair, No Country For Old Men was released, as was that stupid “Hey There Delilah” song. I always wanted to hear a Johnny Cash interpretation of “Hey There Delilah” that took a much more morbid approach. “First time I shot Delilah….” etc.

Grey Flaming hat! Eyeliner! intense stare!

Grey Flaming hat! Eyeliner! intense stare!

Anyway enough about the old-time-era that wasn’t actually that long ago. I made this little E.P! Listening to it now I’m not as horrified by the song-writing as I once feared and Tom’s production is still top notch. By the way Tom, I’d love to work with you again but it seems you’re living in 2004 and don’t have a facebook. As soon as I get my deloren working I’ll find you mother-fucker! SO to kick off 2015 I’ve decided to release these 3 early attempts at song writing for FREE. You lucky people! One day I might release something by The Frame or Crossing Corners but for now please enjoy (and be gentle with) this little E.P which I will simply name 27. Please keep in mind how young, foolish and naive I was. Though I don’t feel I’ve grown up at all. Not one bit. Farts.

I’ll shut up now, Happy New Year

Halloween show, New Song

Evening all! It’s raining, A lot. But shitty weather means productive times for us musicians. Unless we are playing video games which I talk extensively about HERE.

Also Halloween is nearly upon us, the time of year when we all dress up and sing about death and things, a normal day in Brighton really. This year I am actually doing something interesting, with the help of the very talented Gennine Nethercott from the band Joan and Grim:

joan and grimm

They’re an awesome band, you can check them out at: https://www.facebook.com/JoanandGrim

We will be playing a super special Halloween themed set at the Master Mariner pub (it’s at Brighton Marina) on October 31st including fun renditions of gloomy classics like “Don’t Fear the Reaper”, “Sweet Dreams”, “House of a Thousand Corpses”, “Thriller” and more! Please do join us on the night for some terrifying fun times! We will be dressing up, of course, but not sure what as of yet. Either way it will be horrifying!!!!

I will NOT be doing this again.

I will NOT be doing this again.

Whatever we decide, you should all come, it will be good fun. We tried out “Sweet Dreams” for the first time at an open mic the other night which you can see here:

Finally I have a brand new song which you can view here:

Thank you very much to my good friend Paul McKeowan for these two videos.

So that’s it for now, keep checking in, keep listening, tell your friends, share and see you on October 31st!! Stay safe!

Brand new track- Tiny Victories

It’s been quiet here at lazymorse; apologies.  I suppose I’m living up to the name, at least.  Here’s a new track for your listening pleasure.  Please do download and share.  It would make a wonderful Christmas present.

Merry Christmas to you all, and watch out for a full album next year!

Talk of Tea Sessions!

talk of tea

So there’s this wonderful little tea room here in Brighton called Talk of Tea, a place Brían McNamara  thought would be great to make a few videos: And so began the Talk of Tea Sessions. We gathered some of our favourite artists to play a couple of songs each in this intimate and atmospheric setting. The results are finally up on the Seventh Dial promotions YouTube channel located here. The results are lovely, and something everyone involved enjoyed, and is pleased with. Please do have a look at these unique live music videos.

A huge thank you also to all the staff at Talk of Tea for their help and lovely tea.

This will also hopefully be the start of a series of interesting videos like this in various locations, so stay tuned for more videos!
